De Soto High School offers many programs for students to participate in. Theater is one of them.

This year’s fall musical is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Right now, the cast is working on music for the show at practices.

Junior Julia Coverdale, who participated in six musicals throughout her life and is the older sister in Cinderella, is happy about the musical.

“I’m most excited to be performing all six shows this year, and I’m also excited for the Blue Stars Awards,” Coverdale said.

The Blue Star Awards is a competition program that looks at different high school theater programs and gives out awards based on different aspects.

This year’s musical has a total of 94 choral students and 15 crew members. The choruses are split up and will perform in two different groups; Christ and Cindy. These groups will perform on different nights.

Choir teacher Mindy Fry is also helping with this year’s musical. This is her second year helping out with musicals at DHS.

“Our senior class this year has so many talented students. Hagg and I knew that we needed to choose a show that could feature many people, not just a few,” Fry said “We also wanted to choose a show that would get our community excited about our growing program. Cinderella fit the bill in both places.”

Tickets will go on sale on Nov. 1, and the show will run on Nov. 8-11.
