Meet the candidates
What the candidates are involved in:
Yarbrough: Debate, National Honor Society, JV Baseball, Student Council, A&M Crew and drum major.
Wegner: Student Council, National Honor Society, A&M Crew, HERO Club and cheerleading.
Faddis: Sewing Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, varsity softball, A&M Crew and Prom Committee.
Why are you running for Student Council President?
Yarbrough: I am running for Student Council president because I think that I can better the school to the best of my ability from that position. Being the face of Student Council and setting a positive example is something I feel that I would handle very well. I feel as if the most positive impact that can come out of Student Council would be in that situation.
Wegner: I could see myself being a good leader to the school and to the student body. I have a vision, and I want the student body and school to be able to make a positive impact in our community and the world around us.
Faddis: I am running because I would like to be the leader of the school and really advocate for others, making sure everyone’s voice is heard so everyone feels like they have a say in what goes on at De Soto High School.
What will you do for the student body as Student Council President?
Yarbrough: My plan for the student body if elected is to make everything easier for them to get involved at De Soto High School. I want to see attendance rise, and to do that we would be implicating a new class cup service and better ways to earn points for your class and even better incentive at the end of the year so that our decreased participation of class cup in the past will ramp up and we will have great representation.
Wegner: I would like to organize it to where the student body will make most of the decisions. I’m going to use Student Council reps as a way to collect the voices of the student body and respond to those requests and opinions.
Faddis: I definitely will speak for them so that everyone has a say in what goes on. I would want people to be able to approach me and tell me their concerns and I will make sure to do my best to help change whatever they want changed.
Why do you think you would be a good representative of the student body?
Yarbrough: There are a lot of people who would be a great representation of the student body, and unfortunately I feel like there are a lot of them running for Student Council president, but I feel like I have great experience being a leader. Being a drum major for a year going on two has taught me a lot about my leadership style, and what works in situations like a high school setting. Additionally, I feel as if my relationships with people will only continue to get stronger in a position like that because incorporating everybody in the student body into an influential position in the school is a huge priority of mine as well as Student Council as a whole.
Wegner: I communicate and get along with lots of different types of people. I think I understand where a lot of people are coming from and what they want, and I think I could be a great voice for that.
Faddis: I think I would be a good representative because I can see both sides of anything, so if one person thinks one way, I can see the other side and make sure that what we are doing is representing everyone fairly.
