Junior Shane Thompson poses during lunch on March 28.

Shane Thompson, a junior at De Soto High school, has lived in De Soto his entire life. Since being a freshman at DHS, Thompson has been able to touch, and sometimes inspire fellow students or administrators through his unique personality and viewpoints.

This personality comes into play often in class discussion, according to Language and Composition teacher Phillip Hamilton.

“He’s usually relatively outgoing, he’s personable and funny, and he uses his unique perspectives to elicit interesting ideas from other students,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton has Thompson as a student in three classes this semester, including ACT prep, college readiness, and Language and Composition.

A specific example of how Thompson brings forward unusual perspectives is what he chooses to read. Most recently, Thompson has been reading “Mein Kampf,” Nazi German literature.

“[“Mein Kampf”] is interesting. The history and what was going is interesting. When we look at stuff from documentaries from the U.S, there’s such a lens. What better to learn about something than through a primary source?” Thompson asked.

While Thompson is interesting to have in class, he is also a good friend to have, according to junior Taylor Olson.

“I like how unique he is. He’s very different… He’s a really fun person to be around,” Olson said.

Thompson enjoys the atmosphere of DHS, saying that “the teachers are glorious,” and that the school has a “wonderful community.”

By adding in a different perspective in both classrooms and halls, Thompson touches the lives of others around him in a positive way.
