Wildcat of the Week – Kyler Gish
According to Wikipedia, YouTube is a “video-sharing website,” one that most people are familiar with. It is a website with a plethora of topics, ranging from celebrity music videos to math help videos to gaming tutorials to funny cat fails caught on camera.
However, for some people YouTube is an interactive community through which they can express themselves to various audiences. One student who uses the advantages of YouTube is sophomore Kyler Gish.
Gish runs a channel called Memberplay1 where he creates videos and puts them out for the world to see.
“I like [YouTube] because it’s a way for me to be creative,” Gish said.
He described his favorite part about putting out new content.
“I like the process of [making videos],” Gish said. “Just the process of editing and doing stuff like that. Sometimes there’s also good feedback.”
Gish also illustrated how he makes videos.
“It starts out with a raw recording, and then I move into a video editor. I cut out all of the parts where I stutter to make it the best I can, and then I add music,” Gish said.
Gish makes a lot of “gameplay videos” to entertain his audience. He is attracted to the community’s interactions with one another.
“The community can be really supportive,” Gish said. “Sometimes, when I come out with new content, like a new game, a lot of people who make the same content put encouraging comments on my video.”
In addition to generating videos, he also watches a lot of other people’s videos.
“I like videos where people help others, like charity. Also, a lot of my friends have YouTube channels. Whenever they come out with new content, it encourages me to work harder.”
Sophomore Rylee Wilson has seen some of Kyler’s videos
“[Kyler’s] To Kill a Mockingbird video is honestly one of the funniest things I have seen in my high school career, and Kyler Gish is an artistic visionary,” Wilson said.
