The De Soto High School Madrigals went to Arkansas for a field trip on Friday, Feb. 5. The group went to Bentonville, Arkansas to visit the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art and the original Walmart Museum.

On the way to Bentonville, the group, along with a few architecture students, watched Frozen and Divergent over the four hour drive to Arkansas.

Once in Bentonville, the students went to Crystal Bridges to view the famous multi-million dollar pieces of art located in the galleries, such as Rosie the Riveter and others.

The group then went to lunch in the museum, and sang The National Anthem and Shut De Do, a Jamaican style song that the group performed at the State music festival in 2015.

Senior Lily Brown enjoyed the tour provided for the group.

“I was really excited to go to a new state and see something I’ve never seen before, and I was not disappointed. Everything was beautiful,” Brown said.

After an hour of walking around and seeing the galleries in their entirety, it was time to head to the Walmart Museum.

The museum, located inside Sam Walton’s 5&10 Store that opened in 1950, is located in downtown Bentonville.

With his original 1979 Ford F150 and his office still intact, the museum featured the life of Sam Walton and his wife, Helen.

Junior April Porter had fun at the museum.

“I thought the museum was very cool and a good learning experience. It was kind of like traveling back to the 1950’s,” Porter said.

After enjoying ice cream and an old-style soda machine, it was time to head back to Kansas.

During the drive back to De Soto, the group decided to watch The Maze Runner and Holes.

If given the chance, most of the Madrigals agreed that they would return to Bentonville to see the museums again.

“I had a lot of fun, and I am glad that I was given the opportunity to go,” Porter said.
