Senior receives scholarship
De Soto High School has many talented football players who are getting scholarships to play football in college.
One of these players, senior varsity quarterback Nate Thompson, is signing to play football at Ottawa University.
“[Ottawa University] came to our school and [the DHS football team] got to talk to them for a little bit. Then I recived an email from them asking me to visit them and then after the visit, they offered me [a scholarship],” Thompson said.
Thompson started as the DHS quarterback for two years.
“I had one offer previous to this, and to think that I would even get one offer, to be honest with you, is pretty exciting and then to get two, it’s just like wow,” Thompson said.
College visits also played a part in the scholarship process.
“When [football players and families] would visit [the colleges], they would invite us, and we would go down there and would take a tour of the campus and then they would invite us in and talk to the coaches individually. Then they would tell us how much money the could offer us and talk about getting accepted [into the college],” Thompson said.
Many of the senior DHS football players have recieved scholarships to play in college as well as Thompson.
“[Getting offered] is not very common, which is why it’s pretty exciting, and I didn’t think that we have as many guys as we did get offered here at De Soto, but I think that’s a testiment to our program and our coaches,” Thompson said.
