At the start of the new semester, several new students came to De Soto High School from other districts and schools. One sophomore, Drew Gordon, stands out because of an interesting hobby: recreational horseback riding.
Gordon last attended Olathe South High School, a larger school than De Soto, and the difference is not lost on her.
“My favorite part of De Soto is how all of my teachers and counselors actually know who I am,” Gordon said.
Even with the school change, Gordon still continues to be involved in horseback riding. Gordon maintains her horse, Image, by herself, and rides him in barrel races for rodeos during the summer.
More often than not, Gordon will just ride Image for her own enjoyment.
“Horseback riding is my passion. It makes me happy,” Gordon said.
Because of her love for horses, Gordon plans to be a veterinarian for big animals.
However, Gordon doesn’t just ride horses. She is planning to be involved in volleyball next year, but unfortunately missed the season this year because of her untimely transfer to our school.
Changing schools can be hard, but Gordon made friends easily and enjoys De Soto.
