The cancer research foundation “Braden’s Hope” recently raised $2000 during an organization fund raiser, thanks to a De Soto High School digital photography class.
“Dave Strickland came to me with the offer,” art teacher Tim Mispagel said. “He asked if any of our students would be interested in assembling a poster for Braden’s Hope and of course we jumped at the offer.”
Mispagel employed the help of his Digital Photography class two years ago to assemble this poster. “Hope is a central theme to the entire franchise, so it was a given that it would be a central theme in our poster.”
“Dave would receive pictures of children diagnosed with cancer sent from their parents and he would funnel those pictures to me, I would have my class arrange and design them on one master document.” Mispagel said.
Two years later the poster was auctioned off at one the many Braden’s Hope charity auctions.
“Coach Chris McAfee brought to my attention that our poster was auctioned off that night,” Mispagel said.
Of course art wasn’t the only thing up for sale at the auction. Gift baskets and autographed Kansas City sports memorabilia were up for sale. Even an autographed Van Halen guitar was auctioned off.
Braden’s Hope’s mission is to raise awareness and funds for hospitals and research institutes and hosts many of their events in the Kansas City area.
