Prom is the one event aside from graduation that high school students count down to from day one of freshman year. Last year, prom tradition changed as a live band was invited to play.
The participants come from all different grades at De Soto High School with one member from Mill Valley High School. The seniors include Laura Klingler (backup vocals), Laura Meyers (drums), Blake Bradford (bass), and Stephanie Hinchey (keys).
The only junior is a Mill Valley High School student Maston Tapp. Tapp will be performing on guitar and as a vocalist.
Zach Burch is the only sophomore in the band. He is featured as the lead vocalist and lead guitarist. Burch has played in the band since it began last year, meaning that he will have the opportunity to attend Prom all four years of his high school career.
“I am excited to see the reaction from the crowd, hopefully they have the same energy we do. I mean, I am excited to get up there and do my thing with music that I do every weekend,” Burch said about his experience.
There will be one set with five songs including My Body by Young the Giant, Lucky by Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz, Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet, Letters from the Sky by Civil Twilight and It’s Time by Imagine Dragons to add a variety in music for the audience to enjoy.
Along with the band, senior Dylan Foster will be adding special effects to enhance the performance.
“There will be a surprise at Prom that I think people will greatly appreciate. I hope people will think it to be very memorable,” Foster said.
