Senioritis is real

We’ve all heard the jokes about senioritis, but, as a fellow senior, let me tell you just how real it is.

Google defines senioritis as “a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance.”

In years past, I was like many other non-senior students. I laughed and pretended that whichever senior was complaining to me at the time did indeed have senioritis, while I thought to myself how ridiculous that was.

Now, as a senior, I have realized that senioritis is not just a mere “supposed affliction” but a real condition faced by many students.

As a student in many AP classes, I’ve always managed my time well and gotten my assignments done on time, and if I didn’t, it stressed me out.

Now, I have no motivation to do my homework, and thus have accumulated more missing assingments this year than I have in all of my years of high school combined.

At the end of first semester I looked forward to being a part-time senior with only six classes, because it would give me less work to do. But, with less classes came even less motivation.

Many other seniors are suffering from senioritis, both at DHS and at other schools. But no matter where we attend, most of us seniors only have a little over three months left until graduation.

Even with senioritis, I encourage myself and my fellow seniors to finish our last semester strong.

No matter how much we do not want to do that project or fill out that application, we still need to.

It’s only three more months; then we get a short break before begining the next “best four years of our lives.”
