Man, life is a crazy whirlwind of stuff and stress. Just as you think you’re all done – BAM – another thing hits you.
This past month has been one of the busiest of my life. I competed in singing, planned a concert, auditioned for a collegiate show choir, worked two jobs and of course, attended school.
One day, I was sitting with my mother complaining about the stress I was under.
“Well,” she said, “welcome to the rest of your life, sweetheart.”
That wasn’t a great consolation but I realized I would, much rather be busy than do nothing. There is a great satisfaction that comes when I have accomplished something.
So, when I got a superior rating in my vocal competition, I finished the planning of the concert, and finally got caught up in school, I felt fantastic. Although those responsibilities were replaced quickly with scholarship applications, deciding on my future college and finding time to do everything else I need to do.
I am so excited for the stresses to come in life. Seniors, I know you’re excited. Underclassmen, get excited. Life awaits us. This four-year experience, good or bad, is only four years out of life. The four years when we are probably our most vulnerable and the four years when we are learning who are.
Soon, those four years will be over and we will be moving on to life when we meet new people, experience completely new things and feel totally different emotions. Sure, we are adults and with that comes many more responsibilities, but they are our responsibilities. We own them. We own our stress.
