Disney’s new movie, Frozen, has become a hit in theaters lately and has received praises on its music. After almost two months of being in theaters it is still selling out. Although I love Disney as much as the next girl, I feel as though Disney’s Frozen is overrated.
As I was watching the first 20 minutes of the movie, I could not keep the important plot points straight. The story simply jumped around. It seemed as though the beginning of the movie was scattered in an attempt to add complexity to the plot.
Another issue I had with Frozen was that, although I agree with the positive reviews of the music itself, the songs were not integrated very well. The way the songs were placed seemed randomized. It caught me off guard in a bad way, and that’s saying something for someone whose hobby is musical theater. I believe each song should have a purpose, and I felt like Disney integrated several songs just for the sake of having another song.
Perhaps my biggest issue with Disney’s new movie was that the stakes were not high at all. Throughout most of the movie until the very end when Anna’s life is in danger, the main conflict is that Arendel is really cold. I didn’t understand why the villagers couldn’t just buy a coat. Until the end of the movie, Disney couldn’t provide me with a conflict that I actually cared about.
Although I still love Disney, and even Disney’s Frozen, it is not as good as reviews and ticket sales make it seem.
