Auditions for Cinderella the musical come to a close
Auditions for the musical at De Soto High School took place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. This year’s musical is Cinderella, drama teacher and director Jason Hagg is planning on doing something new with the production of Cinderella.
“ There are three versions of Cinderella. Cinderella, the enchanted version, is really updated with a little bit more modern language,” Hagg said.
Hagg said the auditions have gone better than any year before, but it’s going to be a challenge casting the sisters.
“They are the headliner of the show even though it says Cinderella the sisters are sort of the headliner in regards to them having so much funny stuff going on, everyone likes those roles,” Hagg said.
Junior Julia Coverdale is not a newcomer when it comes to musical auditions at DHS and hopes to get the part of the stepmother despite her nerves during her audition.
“I felt like it went good, but it definitely wasn’t perfect, in the past auditions have always gone okay but I have trouble with my nerves affecting my singing,” Coverdale said.
Coverdale feels good about her audition despite a few slip ups and she’s looking forward to beginning the production of the musical.
“I’m excited to work with my friends and to have more friends in this incoming freshman class,” Coverdale said.
Callbacks for Cinderella are on Thursday, August 31, and roles will be posted Friday, Sept. 1 in the afternoon.
“Every year the kids just keep doing better and better so I think the fact that it’s Cinderella and it’s such a timeless hit,our kids have some buy into it. I think our kids are really going to step up, and I think you will see a performance that you’ve never seen here before,” Hagg said.
